A consortium of agencies and organisations led by Venus has successfully bid for funding to open and maintain a Care Leavers’ Centre in Sefton.
So we’re busy recruiting workers, finding the right venue for the centre and consulting with care leavers and young people in care about how they would like it to be managed and run. We hope to have the staff in place in early September and the Centre to be open as soon as possible.
Our Safety, Health and Empowerment course takes place at the Venus Centre over six weekly sessions that address issues such as personal health and hygiene, sustaining a tenancy successfully, money management and healthy relationships. Participants develop skills to live independently and earn a goodie bag and a certificate to celebrate their achievement at the end of the course.
From Monday 29th July to Friday 2nd August 2013, Venus workers accompanied 70 mums and children to stay at the Haven Marton Mere holiday park near Blackpool.
Every Summer Venus raises funds for a residential so that families can spend some time together, women can access support from their workers in a friendly, informal setting, away from the barriers and problems they may be facing at home.
