Resi revels with Venus at Haven
Over to the lovely Leah for an insight on our recent summer residential...
"Each year at Venus we raise funds to take mums and their children who have been accessing our services on a residential trip. This year on 24th July 2017 we headed to Presthaven Sands, Prestatyn, with around 80 women and children, from both our Bootle and Halton centres, for 5 days of fun!
Venus have been organising annual residential trips for families for many years. This trip offers families the opportunity to have a break from the troubles which they face in their day to day lives, enabling them to expand and strengthen their social networks and create long lasting, happy memories. Many of these families are facing financial hardship and such a break would not be possible without this service. The expression of interest for this trip each year, projects the importance of this break to the families that access our service.
Our families were able to enjoy a break away with their children, creating new friendships and strengthening existing friendships, whilst having some of our staff members available to support them with any issues and concerns and to facilitate some activities to bring all of the families together!
In true British style, we were greeted by a whole variety of weather – including a small thunder storm! However, this didn’t dampen our spirits. We managed to see a couple of days of sun and made the most of the glorious weather by meeting up to go to the beach. We took bats and balls, footballs, buckets and spades and done lots of splashing in the sea water and running through the sand! It was great to see so many happy, smiling faces enjoying each other’s company and making the most of their break away.
Luckily, we went to the beach that day as the rain began to pour the following day!
Later on in the week, some of the families met up to play on the park together – we made our own fun with frisbees and skipping ropes as well as making use of the park equipment. until eventually we had to run to shelter from the rain! To escape from the bad weather, we jumped in the mini bus (Which took 2 trips!) and headed out to the Bells of St Mary for a carvery.
Our trip was thoroughly enjoyed by our families and they have been able to make memories that will last a life time. Some of the feedback we have received has included:
“After a hard few weeks, a few days away was great to relax and see my son smile and be happy”
“I enjoyed going swimming and playing games at the beach”
“I can’t thank Venus enough for my holiday with my children. Without Venus I could never have afforded time away with my kids. The support and help they offer is priceless”
After such a thoroughly enjoyable residential trip- we are looking forward to doing it all again next year!"
