Volunteering at Venus - the volunteer's view
My name is Sue, i have been a volunteer at Venus for around 8 months now. I had worked in the NHS for over 35 years and retired from full time work last year.
I knew I wanted to carry on working with people and especially women. I had heard about the good work Venus charity does and thought I might be able to offer something here.
Theres so much you can get involved in here from lending a hand around the place, answering the phone, welcoming people as they arrive, making tea and coffee!
You can get involved with the coffee morning, makers group meet the families that pop in to use the services. Some of the staff need to have someone with them when they do home visits and you get involved with that.
Its not all work its fun, you have a laugh, you meet lots of new people . You will be part of a friendly team who really want to make a difference to the lives of the women and the families we work with.
If you are thinking of a career in social care then this is a great way to get a feel for what it might be like.
